Eight-storey high apartment blocks have been approved for across Dublin. City Councillors have given the go ahead to build accommodation of up to 24 metres in height.
Taller apartment blocks will be allowed as part of the new city development plan but they won’t be of the skyscraper type.
Residential developments of up to 8 storeys have been approved for all areas between the canals, increasing apartment block heights by a third.
A proposal to allow 9 stores in height was rejected by councillors because it would harm the low rise nature of the city.
The only exceptions are the Docklands, Georges Quay and near Heuston and Connolly stations where buildings of over 50 metres can go up.
