James Wimpenny, Executive Director of Bam’s UK and Ireland construction division, is set to retire on January 31, 2024, after an impressive 38-year tenure with the company.

In the interim, while the quest for a successor is underway, temporary arrangements have been put in place. James Wimpenny initially joined Higgs & Hills in 1985 as a management trainee, which was later acquired by Hollandsche Beton Groep (HBG) in 1996. Subsequently, HBG was acquired by Koninklijke BAM Groep in 2002.

Wimpenny’s journey with Bam Construct UK began in May 2015, eventually taking on the lead role for this sector in January 2017. In January 2022, he joined the UK & Ireland divisional leadership team as the Executive Director of the construction segment.

During the transition period, Simon Finnie, Executive Director of Ventures in the UK & Ireland division, will assume the additional responsibility of leading the construction segment until a suitable successor is identified.

Expressing gratitude for Wimpenny’s extensive service, commitment, and contributions, John Wilkinson, Chief Operating Officer of Bam UK & Ireland, acknowledged Wimpenny’s pivotal role in advancing digital technologies within the construction segment. He also commended Wimpenny for promoting collaboration both internally and externally with the supply chain and clients.

Wilkinson expressed delight that Simon Finnie has agreed to step into the leadership role for the Construction segment during the recruitment process for Wimpenny’s successor. Finnie brings a wealth of skills and knowledge acquired during his time with Bam and in the broader construction industry.
