The construction industry grapples with a significant challenge as mental health issues persist, with an alarming statistic of an average of two construction workers taking their lives each day. Addressing this critical issue, The Lighthouse Charity emerges as the sole charity in Ireland and the UK dedicated to supporting the emotional, physical, and financial wellbeing of workers in this sector and their families.

Recently, an event hosted at the Cork City headquarters focused on the paramount topic of workforce wellbeing, offering practical strategies to promote mental health in the workplace. Members of the charity’s MakeItVisible on-site team conducted a toolbox talk, sharing their own experiences and struggles with poor mental health. They engaged in confidential conversations with employees, creating a safe space for dialogue. Additionally, attendees received resource bags containing helpful materials and freebies.

The Lighthouse Charity extends its support through various channels, including a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline, live chat service, and the text-based HARDHAT facility, providing information, guidance, and support on a wide range of wellbeing issues. Complementing these services are their free Self Support App and Lighthouse Beacons, offering additional avenues for assistance. Furthermore, their Wellbeing Academy offers diverse free soft skills and leadership training across various platforms.

Carolina Zanetti, HR administrator at Rockwell, expressed appreciation for the MakeItVisible team’s visit to their offices and workshop in Cork, highlighting the invaluable insights and resources shared by Dale and Justin. Shauna Reilly, another HR Administrator with Rockwell, emphasized the Lighthouse Charity’s unwavering commitment to supporting the construction industry, fostering an environment that values employees’ physical, mental, and social welfare.

Sarah Bolton, Chief Operating Officer for the Lighthouse Charity, expressed gratitude for their partnership with Rockwell, highlighting the company’s financial support and efforts to raise awareness of their charitable services. Bolton emphasized the importance of promoting a positive wellbeing culture within the construction industry.
