The formal consultation process has launched for the proposed A24 Ballynahinch Bypass.

The announcement refers to the publication of the Draft Statutory Orders which will pave the way for the provision of a bypass which represents a potential investment in the range of £40m to £50m.

Transport Minister Danny Kennedy said: “The proposed scheme involves the provision of a single carriageway bypass, 3.1km in length around the eastern periphery of Ballynahinch, Co. Down.

“It includes both northbound and southbound overtaking opportunities and the provision of a grade-separated junction with the B7 Crossgar Road and a shared cycle/footway to the western (town) side.

“The bypass is expected to make a significant contribution to the improvement of traffic conditions and the conditions generally in Ballynahinch town centre and I would encourage everyone with an interest in the area to get involved and take part in the public consultation process.”
