Google plans to invest €150 million in a new data centre in Dublin.

The search giant will open a two-storey facility alongside its existing data centre at Profile Park in West Dublin, which has been operating for three years.

The move follows similar announcements by Apple and Facebook, who have both taken advantage of Ireland’s naturally cool climate which is suitable for data centres as it saves money on energy costs.

Google said the first construction phase will be complete this year and that the centre will rank among the more energy efficient in the world when it is fully complete.

About 400 people will be employed during construction and a number of permanent jbs will be created once the centre opens.

Google has also bought a 31-acre site next door which can be used later for further expansion.
