Investment of Total Irish windfarm might hit €2.7bn
A forecast from the Irish Wind Energy Association (IWEA) indicates that the Windfarm construction will be worth €500m to the building sector in the next four years.
The numbers, due to be published at IWEA’s Annual Conference in Dublin today, indicate that the wind energy sector will also spend €162m in local advisory services, €54m on transport, and €108m will be paid out to landowners over the period.
To meet Irland’s 2020 environmental targets a total investement of 2.7bn is required in onshore wind energy.
A key beneficiary will be the Irish construction sector, set to benefit from close to €500m of spending in the next four years.
Speakers at the conference will include the outgoing minister for Communications Alex White, Eirgrid’s Fintan Slye, and the Commissioner for Energy Regulation Garrett Blaney.
