IONITY has inaugurated the Merklingen charging station along the A8 highway in Germany, solidifying its position as one of Europe’s largest IONITY hubs. The station caters to the demand for ultra-fast charging, accommodating up to 24 electric vehicles simultaneously. It features Alpitronic HYC400 chargers with a 200 kW capacity per outlet and IONITY’s Halo chargers with a more formidable 350 kW capacity. Merklingen is the first IONITY hub to showcase both charger types side by side, enhancing the availability of ultra-fast charging points.

Christoph Strecker, Country Manager for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland at IONITY, highlighted the company’s commitment to expansion along German and European highways. The Merklingen site is strategically located on the A8 highway, part of IONITY’s ambitious expansion plan.

Merklingen not only offers cutting-edge charging technology but also provides traveller-friendly facilities, including spacious parking, drive-thrus for trailers, and the aesthetically pleasing “H_Albzeit” restaurant. The restaurant features remarkable architecture, a market hall with local specialties, a bakery, a butcher’s shop, and a cozy fireplace-equipped restaurant. Additionally, a fast-food option next door caters to those in a hurry.

Addressing the innovative charger setup, IONITY clarified that the newly introduced 200 kW High-power chargers will have two power outlets, each with a maximum capacity of 200 kW. These chargers will offer Plug & Charge convenience and multiple payment options, including app-based payments, QR code payments, NFC token or RFID card payments, Plug & Charge, and credit card payments. Importantly, IONITY maintains consistent pricing across all its chargers for fairness and transparency.
