Entries for the Ireland Chapter of Project Management Institute’s (PMI) National Project Awards, sponsored by PwC, are open. Over 120 applicants entered the awards last year, which celebrate the country’s leading project managers and teams and their forward-thinking projects. This year the Awards recognise the importance of community-led non-profit projects with the introduction of a new category solely for community organisations, Project Management for Social Good.

Award winners in their respective categories will also have the opportunity to be considered for the PMI Global Project Management Awards.

Spanning the private, public and not-for-profit sectors, the prestigious Awards give Irish businesses and community groups the opportunity to showcase the outstanding achievements of project managers within their organisations. Entries for nominations are now open at projectawards.ie. The deadline for all nominations is 14 September 2018.

Pat Lucey, Ireland Chapter of PMI President, commented: “Last year, over 120 applicants entered the National Project Awards, and set the standard for what is to come. We expect the number of entries to grow substantially this year, following last year’s high-profile winners. There is extraordinary growth happening right now in Ireland and we urge businesses to enter to showcase the depth and breadth of Irish project management talent.”

In 2018, there are eight categories open for entry — Professional of the Year, PMO of the Year, SME Project of the Year, Private Sector (non-SME) Project of the Year, Public Sector Project of the Year, and Project Management for Social Good (Corporate and Community). The awards will include one honorary nomination for Distinguished Contribution to Project Management.

Féilim Harvey, PwC Programme and Portfolio Management Partner, stated: “PwC is delighted to continue to partner with the Ireland Chapter of PMI for the annual National Project Awards. We are very proud to support and champion programme management excellence in Ireland. These Awards are a great opportunity to celebrate the country’s talent and successes in project management. Excellent project management is a key enabler for Irish businesses’ adaptability and competitiveness in a modern business environment. With the uncertainties regarding Brexit, particularly around potential supply chain disruption, these skills are critical for business success.”

Last year’s Project Professional of the Year, Derek Tierney of the Department of Finance, who is now in the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, added: “It was an honour to win at the inaugural Awards last year. The category we entered was highly competitive and a true testament to the calibre of projects here in Ireland. I wish this year’s applicants, and eventual finalists, the very best of luck.”

Last year’s winners also included: Pramerica, the Royal College of Surgeons, Sonalake, Three Ireland and Ervia. Terence O’Donnell won Distinguished Contribution to Project Management for his career achievements.

The independent judging panel comprises of nine leading experts drawn from public and private sectors. The independent verifier for the judging process is Matheson, one of Ireland’s leading law firms. The winners will be revealed at a black-tie awards ceremony on 29 November 2018 at the Dublin offices of headline sponsor PwC.
