Penneys has today reopened its newly renovated Sligo store, 33 years after the shop first opened in March 1982.

Seventeen new jobs have been created in the refurbished store, bringing total staff numbers to 103.

Following a nine week renovation, the new store comprises 18,900 sq ft of retail space.

“This store has a long history in Sligo and has been a favourite shopping destination for fashion-lovers for 33 years,” said a Penneys spokesperson. “We are delighted to mark this milestone with the unveiling of our new refurbishment which has an ultra-modern design and will give our customers a unique shopping experience.”

Penneys currently has 288 stores across nine countries including 37 in Ireland. A further two new stores will open shortly in Hasselt, Belgium and Graz, Austria.

Primark will open its first store in the US in Boston this September. Seven further stores are scheduled to open in the north east of the US.
