Turner-TownsendUK-based Turner & Townsend has successfully completed handover of the new Mercers Institute for Successful Ageing (MISA) at St. James’s Hospital in Dublin.

MISA is a centre of excellence for the treatment and wellbeing of the elderly and treats in excess of 16,000 patients a year over the age of 65. The concept of the Institute has been in development for approximately 30 years with the Board including key Clinicians at St James’s and Lectures at Trinity College. It is being duel funded by the HSE and a private American group, Atlantic Philanthropy.

The building is a total of seven storeys made up of three distinct zones, Outpatients (over two storeys), In Patients (over four storeys) and Research (in a separate wing over three storeys).

Turner & Townsend was awarded the Project Manager role in 2011 and helped steer processes through all stages to this successful handover. Throughout this time Turner & Townsend maintained a full time presence at St James’s Hospital and by doing so was able to offer support and advice with a wide range of End User and Client issues.

“This is the largest dedicated clinical research facility for ageing in Ireland and as such will has a pivotal role in leading new models of health service delivery, innovations in health technologies and novel research methods to ensure our extended life spans are disability free and that those with disability live a high quality life. We are delighted with Turner & Townsends contribution to the overall project. Its involvement through all stages has proved instrumental to its (MISA) success.”Professor Rose Anne Kenny, Director Mercers Institute for Successful Ageing, St James and Trinity College Dublin, commented:

Martin Stonehouse, Director, Turner & Townsend Ireland, commented: “Being involved in this project is something we’re immensely proud of. We have been onsite since the initial stages back in 2011. Through this time we have used our project management knowledge to develop a complex multi-user brief, manage a programme of enabling and decant projects and act as the client representative throughout construction to minimise disruption to the live hospital campus.”

Turner & Townsend plc is a construction and project management consultancy with headquarters in Leeds, United Kingdom. Founded in 1946, it has 97 offices in 41 countries and serves clients across the property, infrastructure and natural resources sectors.
