Twitter’s EMEA Headquarters at Cumberland Place, Dublin 2, has been awarded LEED Platinum level certification for a Repurposed Building.

It is one of the few office buildings in Ireland, and the first Twitter office in the world to achieve this highest LEED certification. LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a global recognition and certification for sustainability in buildings, and is one of the most popular green building certification programmes used worldwide. The awarding body for this certification is the US Green Building Council.

Cumberland Place is the result of a collaboration between Twitter and landlord Hibernia REIT to repurpose an existing Dublin landmark in accordance with the highest standards of sustainability. The project incorporated innovation at all stages including site selection, concept planning, design, construction, and post-occupation operations. The result of this partnership was the awarding of LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification which is recognised across the world as the benchmark of Green Building standards.

Sean Boyle, Head of Real Estate and Workplace, Twitter EMEA, commented on the LEED Platinum certification; “We are very proud to be certified as LEED Platinum. Cumberland Place is a fantastic office space for our employees; the abundance of natural light, together with external green spaces and high quality indoor air circulation allows our employees and partners to do their best work in a world-class setting.

“We chose to partner with Hibernia REIT and not to demolish the building and start again, but took on the more difficult task of repurposing a city landmark and lengthening the life of a building with a unique character and history and we are delighted that this has been recognised by the US Green Building Council. Twitter is committed to protecting the environment through responsible and innovative business practices, and securing LEED Platinum status is a key part of this vision.”

Mark Pollard, Director of Development, Hibernia REIT, also commented; “This landmark 1970s office building has been remodelled into one of the finest tech offices in the city, providing first class, efficient space for Twitter to grow and succeed in Dublin city centre. LEED Platinum status is testament to the efforts of the entire project team, and we hope this successful refurbishment will contribute to the ongoing regeneration of this city centre location.”
