The role of the Private Residential Tenancies Board (PRTB) is being expanded, it was advised today. Approved Housing Bodies will be brought under its remit, meaning that landlords and tenants of housing union properties will be able to access the services of the board as well.

Nearly 20% of  five households in the country were renting their arrangements in the private sector according to the 2011 Census, and that number is expected to have grown since then.

In award, there over 30,000 tenants in the Approved Housing Body sector.

To reflect the change, is the agency changing its name to Residential Tenancies Board as well.

Ms Rosalind Carroll has been appointed as the new director of the PTB. Ms Carroll, was formerly head of regulation of approved housing bodies at the housing agency.
