They will also extend the barrier for another 150 metres, adding a new 2 metre high barrier 100 metres to the west and 50 metres to the east of the existing barrier. The new barrier will benefit residents living on Railway Terrace and Common Lane in East Ardsley.

The work will be carried out between 7.30am and 4pm with occasional overnight work for the installation and removal of a temporary safety barrier. There will be a permanent 50mph speed limit along the M62 just west of the Lofthouse junction with the M1, which will remain in place until the work is completed.

Highways England Project Manager Joe Green said: “This new and improved barrier will reduce the noise for residents as it will be both taller and longer that the current barrier, and be made from new noise blocking materials.

“We will need to remove some shrubs and small trees to access and construct the new barrier, but we will only remove vegetation where it’s necessary to undertake the work.

“A 50mph speed limit will be in place along the M62 for approximately half a mile near to the Lofthouse junction on the westbound carriageway for the safety of our workforce and the travelling public.”

The project is expected to last for around 10 weeks, and is dependent on reasonable weather conditions.
