Work begins on largest ever State-funded school
Building work is getting under-way on the largest ever state-funded school. About 2,000 pupils will be taught at the new €30 million post-primary campus in Maynooth, Co Kildare.
One building replaces the old Maynooth Post Primary School and a second will be home to Maynooth Community College, a multi-denominational school established in 2014. Both schools will share a standalone sports hall and the first pupils are due to start in 2019.
Education Minister Richard Bruton said hundreds of non-denominational schools will open over the next decade. “Students in Maynooth will greatly benefit from these new facilities for decades to come,” he said.
“I commend the two schools, each with its own ethos, on their cooperation, which will continue when both schools move to their purpose-built accommodation.
“The patronage determination process will continue to play its role in achieving the Government’s target of 400 multi- or non-denominational schools by 2030.”
